Mission Statement
Court Appointed Special Advocates of Union County, Inc. (CASA of Union County) is a non-profit organization that recruits, trains and supervises community volunteers to act as advocates for children in out-of-home placement.
Statement of Purpose
The purpose of CASA of Union County is to help children in out-of-home placement achieve permanency in a safe and nurturing home. The primary purposes of the program are as follows:
(a) Advocate for the best interests of children in out-of-home placement and under the jurisdiction of the New Jersey Superior Court, Family Part, in Union County.
(b) Recruit, screen, train, and supervise volunteers who will be appointed by the Family Court and assist the court in gathering relevant information about the child and the family through file reviews, interviews with the child, parents, foster parents, resource family, relatives, teachers, doctors, social workers and anyone else who might have pertinent information.
(c) Establish and maintain effective relationships with the Family Court, Division of Youth and Family Services (DYFS), Child Placement Review Board (CPRB), Office of the Public Defender, Legal Aid, and other child serving agencies/institutions in order to create a cooperative environment in which to best serve the needs of children.
(d) Educate the community about the role of CASA of Union County in the lives of children in out-of-home placement. Represent the CASA program at local and county level organizations concerned with child welfare.
