Adoption Day - November

National Adoption Day is a collective, national effort to raise awareness of the more than 110,000 children in foster care awaiting an average of four years for a permanent, safe and loving home. The annual celebration is the Saturday before Thanksgiving and more than 400 cities participate each year. By day’s end, several thousand children finally have a family to call their own. Here in Union County, the judiciary celebrates the day before, when courts are open and many adoptions are finalized. After the finalizations, the new families gather with court staff, judiciary, law guardians, caseworkers and others to enjoy refreshments, entertainment and pose for a first official family portrait. CASA of Union County distributes goody bags filled with donations and keepsakes for both the children and their families.
